What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based approach that teaches skills to manage emotions, tolerate distress, stay mindful, and improve relationships. It pairs acceptance (meeting reality as it is) with change (taking effective action).

Core modules

  • Mindfulness — act with awareness; notice thoughts/feelings without judgment.
  • Emotion Regulation — understand what emotions are doing and regulate yourself.
  • Distress Tolerance — get through crises and intense moments safely.
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness — get your needs met and keep self-respect.

Why practice matters

Skills stick with repetition. Brief daily reps build recall under stress, making it more likely you’ll use the right skill when you need it. That's why Rooted emphasizes micro-lessons and quick “try it now” exercises.

How Rooted helps

  • 3–5 minute lessons with interactive practice.
  • Diary cards to track urges, emotions, and skills used.
  • Gentle reminders and streaks for momentum.
  • Shareable summaries for therapy or personal reflection.

Safety note

Rooted offers education and self-guided practice. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
